So this was an illustration that I ... I dunno.  The proportions on the kid still bug me as does a lot of the lighting, but I still like the concept.

This was originally an illustration that kind of went along to an OLD story I would tell myself when I was a kid. I always had a hard time sleeping (I still do, but I've come to just kind of daydream about something or other until I fall asleep), so being the weird person I've always been I would make up my own bed time stories which kind of turned into my own personal series.  I remember I literally had a schedule mapped out where one night I would continue X story, the next night would be Y story, and so on.  Except Sundays.  Sundays were short story nights.

The one depicted here was one of my more interesting ones to reflect back on.  It was about a little boy who was the son of two workers aboard what was basically a luxury hotel that moved along the ocean floor (I WONDER where my love of Bioshock came from ...) Think glamorous high brow cruise ship meets submarine meets science fiction.  I had this whole idea about a futuristic society where important and wealthy figures would come from all over the world to live on a one-of-a-kind ship that was designed for luxury, pleasure, and escape from the average world but the main focus of my tales were around the lower class workers who ran the ship behind the scenes.  Usually it involved the kid sneaking out from one of the servant's halls (In my head the servants and workers moved around in the mechanical systems and service halls behind the walls of the rest of the ship so the passengers didn't have to see or deal with their presence) and having some sort of adventure.  I had a whole story set around different people, histories, personalities.  I looked forward to bedtime every Wednesday night so I could imagine what would happen next.  This is one of the scenes I still remember where I decided to give him a 'secret friend' that was an ancient dinosaur/sea serpent that only he ever saw as it would swim back into the gloom when other people normally tried to look through the glass.  He would greet every day by rushing to the nearest window or porthole and make faces at it.  I think I had the boy name it Whiskey and to this day I can't remember why.

I had not even thought about it until recently when I was going through some old stuff and found an old calendar.  Consequently I started to amuse myself by thinking back to all the stories and got inspired to draw.

Oh. My. God. I love this and I do the same thing a lot. Though usually it's taking another story and warping it in my mind. This is amazing ^w^ and the story just makes it more so!
